Community Services

LCH offers a wide range of resources to meet the needs of Hispanic and low income residents of Southern Chester County. Approximately 1,500 individuals annually receive services that include information and referral, translation and advocacy, case management, life skills training, adult education and legal assistance.

Information and referral:

Community Resource Center staff work with clients who need one-time or short term help in a crisis. These services include:

  • information, referral and application assistance for essential services such as utility and rent assistance, cash assistance, food stamps, affordable housing, medical assistance
  • employment information
  • translation and interpretation
  • advocacy
  • transportation
  • legal assistance

Case Management

Some clients need more intensive, long term assistance to achieve personal and financial stability. These clients are referred to a case manager, who helps them develop goal plans and works closely with them to ensure their success in accomplishing their goals. Examples of services provided by the case manager include:

  • Development of personal, educational and financial goals
  • Life skills training (parenting, budgeting, work readiness, etc.)
  • Employment counseling
  • Translatation and interpretation
  • Advocacy
  • Transportation
  • Legal Assistance

Adult Education

Our ultimate goal is to help clients build the skills they need to succeed at work and in life. Over 600 adults participate each year in LCH adult education classes. Courses include:

  • English as a Second Language (ESL) – six levels of instruction, with a curriculum that builds work readiness and other skills while building English proficiency.
  • Computer Training – beginner and advanced classes are offered in English with Spanish language support. The 150-hour curriculum includes keyboarding, word processing, spread sheet usage and database applications.
  • Graduate Equivalency Diploma (GED) – courses are offered in Spanish.
  • Citizenship – classes prepare students for the citizenship exam and help them understand their rights and responsibilities as new U.S. citizens
